The EK Archery VLAD is a compact 8-shot repeating crossbow designed around fast repeat shooting, easy cocking and compact storage. It combines an 8-shot magazine with an integrated folding buttstock that also acts as the cocking lever.
A major advantage is that the VLAD includes two interchangeable front ends as standard: 60 and 90 lbs. The 60 lbs configuration prioritises light and fast cocking, while the 90 lbs front end increases performance to approximately 215 FPS with the standard 155-grain aluminium bolt. This allows the same platform to be adapted for ease of use or higher performance.
The VLAD combines 8 shots, a quick loader, an integrated folding cocking/shoulder stock and two power levels in one compact repeating crossbow.
With the 60 lbs front end, cocking remains light and accessible. The 90 lbs front end provides noticeably more performance without requiring a different crossbow. This makes the VLAD particularly strong when compactness, shooting rhythm and flexibility matter more than maximum FPS.
Key compromise: the VLAD is mechanically more sophisticated, heavier and more expensive than a simple repeater such as the Sobek. In return, it provides a larger magazine, faster reloading, the integrated folding cocking stock and two front ends as standard.
The 8-shot magazine is one of the VLAD's defining features. There is no need to manually place a new bolt on the rail after every shot.
The included 8-bolt quick loader also makes refilling the magazine considerably faster. This keeps interruption between shooting strings to a minimum.
The VLAD uses EK Archery's Integrated Folding Buttstock. The folding stock has two functions: it provides a stable shoulder support while shooting, and the same stock is used as the cocking lever.
This removes the need for a separate underlever or rope cocker. Lever assistance reduces physical effort and creates a short, repeatable cocking cycle.
The VLAD is supplied with both a 60 lbs and 90 lbs front end. Its quick-change limb system allows the setup to be adapted to different priorities.
Factory-rated kinetic energy is approximately 9.37 ft-lbs / 12.7 J with the 60 lbs front end and 15.91 ft-lbs / 21.58 J with the 90 lbs front end.
The VLAD has a bow-only length of approximately 25.6 inches / 65.0 cm. Width is approximately 17 inches / 43.2 cm uncocked and 15.75 inches / 40.0 cm cocked.
Bow-only weight is approximately 4.1 lbs / 1.86 kg. Together with the folding stock and tool-free disassembly, this makes the VLAD relatively compact for transport and storage.
The VLAD features EK Archery's Trigger Safety System and Anti-Dry Fire. Anti-Dry Fire helps prevent full string release when a suitable bolt is not correctly positioned.
It remains an additional safeguard rather than a substitute for correct operation. Always confirm that the bolt is correctly seated in the magazine and on the rail before firing.
The VLAD is designed for Easy Disassembly. Major components can be removed quickly without tools, making transport, storage and maintenance more practical.
The VLAD occupies a distinct position within the repeating-crossbow category:
The VLAD therefore sits between the simple Sobek and the more elaborate Adder and REVO platforms. Its particular strength is the combination of compact handling, 8-shot capacity, quick reloading and two included draw-weight configurations.
The VLAD uses dedicated 6.5-inch / 16.5 cm aluminium crossbow bolts. The standard bolt used for EK Archery's performance specifications weighs approximately 155 grains.
Only use bolts specifically compatible with the EK Archery VLAD and its 8-shot magazine. Matching length alone is not sufficient: diameter, nock design, fletching and total weight must also be suitable.
